Hy Pinion in front for SAS?
« on: Jan 26, 2004, 10:57:02 AM »
Newbie here,
If geting the All Pro Hy Pinion 3rd member with the ARB air locker in the front,
are there any modifications to the 85 front axle that I would have to do?
Or does the 3rd member just bolt right in???

Thanks,

Espi

you might have to grind the housing just a little bit to get the ring gear in there.  Other than that it is a bolt in deal

another thing to look at is the driveline angle towards the tcase. depeinding on what your lift is you might have to shim or move your springs perches to counter the angle.  But it would have to be pretty major or you  get a vibration when driving in 4wheel drive

Mine just fell in the housing. I don't think the difference in the brand of gears they use compared to ours will cause you any problems with housing clearence. I have no vibration issuses but then I don't drive over 15mph with the front locked ( i have in snow, it was fine)

The angle is great. So much better then a standard diff. The front shaft is also less likely to get involved with a rock now.

If you have trouble getting a high pinion into a housing, have someone turn the pinion gear as you push the housing into place. This works when it's a tight fit.
