I come with questions
« on: Jan 24, 2004, 09:03:02 PM »
Hello to all you other Toyota fans out there.
I am the proud owner of an 88 toyota 4runner that has been in my family since 1990.
I am tired of hearing grief from my friends with their Cherokees that their trucks are better off road(so I run over everything possible).  In an effort to squash their comments, I would really like to upgrade my stock 4.10 open diff with a toyota LSD.
What is the easiest/cheapest way to accomplish this?
I have read some articles on the Supra lsd and the 95 Tacoma LSD.  Will the 4.88 v6 front and rear swap be a viable option?
Thanks for all your help.
Ron

See if you can get your hands on a TRD electric locker that would be the best way. And if you are asking if the v-6 will work in your 4 banger axles? Yes they will.

I don't know much about LSD but I do know your better off getting a TRD, ARB or a Detriot locker. The ARB and the TRD electric or both locking and unlocking types. The Detriot is a full locker that locks under torque but will give( or rachet) a little makinhg it easy to drive with. Detroits are about 450. An ARB is 650 plus you need an air sorce with a constant 80psi. The TRD eletric locker will require welding and torching to retro fit it in your axle housing( well worth the work and money) and custom wiring. They run about 350+ for a used diff and 750 for a new one for Toyota. Thats also the order from easy to hard as far as install gos( IMO)
