Standard guage panel to SR5 gauge w/tach install ???'s
« on: Aug 30, 2006, 05:20:51 PM »
I found this topic awhile back when I first became a member but now I can't find it at all.

I'm wanting to install a SR5 gauge cluster panel into my '82. Reason being is the tach that's a part of the instrument panel. One thing I saw, on the previous mentioned search, was having to install a wire from the coil to the cluster. Is that all there is? Where do I install the wire into the cluster?

Appreciate the help.

FSM should tell ya where the wire goes. Id try to get a plug form a junkyard to make it plug and play...
But an off the cuff guess is the wire may alreayd be int he plug - just not in the harness.

In the WORST case - you'll have to use a "eye" crimp ocnnector tothe back ot he "bolt" that holds the tach to teh cluser/trace  (what it looks like on th e85-88 ones anyway)

yeah yeah - still IFS...

Thanks for the replies guys...<BIGThumbsUP!>

Kyota, whats a SR5 OP sending unit? You mean something like the wiring harness that plugs to the back side of the gauge cluster? Or could I just "run" a wire?
Also, will the igniter "yellow wire" be fine for the connection to the tach and/or will I need a wire to the coil too?

op sending unit= oil pressure sending unit. you have to replace the non sr5 sending unit with an sr5 sending unit or it will fry the gauge
