Inboarded rear springs
« on: Aug 23, 2006, 08:55:08 AM »
I was wondering if anyone could give me some info on inboarded rear springs? I've looked at a lot of stuff on Pirate, but here's what I'm looking for specifically. Pro's / con's (to include on pavement use) and Does anyone build a kit for inboarding rear springs?

Thanks.
Josh

i dont think that anyone builds a kit..but its perty easy to dom ive done it on a 83, and a 85

pros- more travel, slightly less pinion wrap, less stress on rear susp. components during mild off road use

cons- way more stress on components under extreme use unless pivot points like johnny joints or pivoting mounts are used-this is due to more spring twist.

less room to mount shocks, traction bars, stuff, on the axle.
on the street it is worse, for the same reaons that its better off road-more leverage.

this can be helped by adding double shocks or 1 extremely good shock per side.

i tghink that it is more trouble than it is worth, and that a standard set up suits you fine, with out the cons

if you feel like fabbin though, do a 4 link, 3 link....or somethin like that
