somebody has to know which website to check. Ive been looking at the forest service site but i cant find it, maybe im blind.   :hammer:   For anyone wondering where the barrett trail is its at the very end of the wrights lake road, which is the next left after icehouse road on 50 when your coming from sacramento. The trail is great, its just a little tight at the top where you camp if its a busy weekend.

Never heard of it being on a web site. It is a well guarded secret with the guys up north because it is still a pretty clean trail unlike the Rubicon. They get all butt hurt on Pirate if you post pics of Barrett on Pirate because they say all the yaahoos will go there instead of Rubicon and thrash it.

Any way, for the most part, you show up and if the gates are open, you hit it. If they are closed, you head up the road and do Rubicon. As soon as the trail gets any rain on it, the rangers close the gates. I've heard stories of guys getting locked on the trail because after they started the trail, it rained and the rangers locked the gat with them still on it. They're real careful of added damage from water runoff and the damage incurred from wheeling with mud on the trail.

Try This

I'm not sure this will be 100% accurate. I generally
call the ElDorado Forest Service at 530-644-6048 to
find out if the trail is open or when it might open.

Thanks for the phone number. They said it should be open soon, and stay open a little later then normal.       I've been on the trail four times and always had a blast, but i can see why you say its kind of a secret. If everyone went there it would be a nightmare for traffic and camping.
