Alternator problems???
« on: Jul 02, 2006, 03:05:30 PM »
Ok every time i get into deep mud my alternator quits working.  So the question is, is my alternator just worn out, or is there something i need to do to protect my alternator that is on the bottom of my engine(not the best place for one in my oppinion)?  Thanks for any help.

I used to get a spray can of electrical parts cleaner from AutoZone and spray the alt. before & after water crossings, seemed to help but I still went through more than my share of them muddy water is pretty harsh on the brushes.  It is a difficult piece to waterproof.

well thats all well and good i do like the rocks, however they're not in great supply around here.  In fact trails that are legal are a little hard to find here in my immediate area anyway.  I think i'm gonna move some stuff in my engine compartment to get the alternator up out of the muck.  Put the batteries in the cab, the intake where the batteries go and make a braket that get the alternator over by where the intake was.
