I vote way over the top for half doors, mine hold 2 speakers each and since there is no door panel they also can hold about 15 empty beercans each or tools, parts, oil whatever i love them plus when your cruising on the highway they take away most of the windnoise.  I love mine no matter how tatered they are

If you've got the extra doors, you may as well use them   its not hard to cap them, my buddy cut them straight and used 2x4s to cap them.  real simple and straightforward.  The latch stays in the same place, so you don't even have to move it.

half doors might come in handy for water crossings or mud and they weigh next to nothing. tube doors look cool though  :king:

ya i'm debateing on going the half door tube door setup on my rig....but since i don't have an extra set of doors i'll probally go with the tube doors. Plus there are easy as pie to make up, but IF i had a set of extra set of doors i'd cut them up for half doors just for the "almost" stock look of them and i like the storage factor that RAMROD mentioned.

obviously it takes more time and energy to do a half door instead of tube. But like others have said, to have the freedom to mount speakers and have more overall coverage is kinda nice.

As far as the latch goes.. its very simple if you want to use the original handles and just modify them. You can create a setup where it looks like a door lock, just hit it down "like your locking a vehicle" and it opens the door. All spring actuated and its pretty easy.

I chopped the top section and layed a piece of like 18 gauge across the top, stitch welded and layed bondo over to smooth it out.

You can cut down as far as you want, just get creative with it.. its your doors.

Making the latch work is simple.

I love my half doors. To make a nice set takes time and I am tires of making new ones after I jack them up. I am going to build a set of tube doors and move my speakers to the rear panel. I like the look of half doors better than tube. But the tube will take a pounding.

X2.   Hate taking the 1/2 doors off because I loose so much storage space!!   And as long as they open/close, don't really care what they look like.  Mine do create alot of wind noise though.

I've ridden with tube doors and they're nice, but tend to draft dust into the cab. My vote is for 1/2 doors, but they'll take a lot of time to get them nice. Just depends on what you're looking for.  Heres some pictures of my 1/2 doors on my Stolen '86 runner. Fortuneately the 1/2 doors were not on it when it was stolen. If you're interested I have pictures of the complete build. I used the stock inside door handle and adapted it to the stock door latch.  They open and close like stock doors.  cup holders are a nice added bonus, just be carefull what you set in them. Drinking & Driving is still illegal, even if it is a fancy cup holder.
