I thought that the rear axle seals went in the end of the housing???  Pull the shaft, get the seal out, and put the new one in?

Theres two seals in there, but the "inner" of the two is the one that usually goes bad.

Disconnect the ebrake cable from the backing plate.
Disconnect the brake hardline from the backing plate.
Remove the 4 14mm bolts from the backing plate at the axle flange.
Pull the entire backing plate/axle assy out of the housing.
The seal is in the end of the housing and easily replaced now.  Reverse for re-assembly.

No, not behind the third...sorry to confuse you.

Theres one that's more of a dust seal that gets installed before you press together the axle/backing plate assy., and one that is in the end of the housing.  The one in the end of the housing is the "inner" seal, as the other one is in the bearing retainer the goes in the backing plate, more to the "outer" side of things.

Its right there in the end of the axle housing-  you'll see it easily when you pull the backing plate/axle assy. out.

so when i go get the seal at the parts store its the inner seal then technically?  and i assume, from the way it sounds as if the bearings slides inside of the seal?  thx for the help, toy axles are new news to me, personally use to dana type axles

yep, it's the inner.  the seal lip rides the axle shaft to keep gear oil from leaking out of the housing and washing out the grease from the bearings.  the bearing itself is a big sealed unit that's pressed onto the shaft.
