Seat Suggestions?
« on: May 21, 2006, 05:44:43 PM »
Ever since I bought this truck, I have noticed the drivers side lumbar portion of the seat is highly uncomfortable. They are completely worn out. I just went on a 450 mile journey, and my back is still killing me. Any suggestion on seat replacements? I am open to junkyard specials. I need something with good lumbar support for my lower back and something that will keep me and my legs in my seat. Please help.

Oh yeah. These seats will have to fit in my 1985 Xtra Cab Pickup. I have the ability to make the brakets if necessary.

I like the seats in my dad's first generation PT Cruiser(05 and earlier, his is an 02), and I think that's what I'm going to try to find for my truck, they're small so they fit the Toy cab, and they've got great support, he's got a bad back and loves the things. 2nd gen cruisers (my mom has one) have nice seats too, but I prefer the earlier models. The earlier pattern choices weren't so funky looking like the newer ones.

Do you know if they are similar to the SRT-4 seats? I love my seats in my SRT-4, and would love to find a set for the truck. But there might be better options out there.

Go to a junkyard, and test out some seats  find ones you like, then make some brackets.

Nope, they aren't as heavily bolstered and the headrest is adjustable. Probably similar mounting and bases though, and size wise. My mom's 06 GT has some nicely bolstered ones, but I think they're bigger.

Well if you have the money, Get mastercraft. My brother has some in his jeep and they are the most comfortable seats Ive ever sat in (in a car anyway) they are pricey but they are totally worth the cost.

I just got some '02 double cab seats put into my regular cab '85.  HUGE improvement and best of all it was easy.  All you do is take the brackets that hold the sliders to the floor off the old seats then weld them to the donor seat sliders.

I'm fairly happy with the seats I snagged out of an 86 300zx, and like the adjustability.  DD I leave the sides more open, twisties or off road I adjust the bolster in tighter.  Tought to find em without a cigarette stain though.

Okay, I found a set of 96' Honda Prelude SI seats for cheap and they are super clean. How hard do you think it will be to fabricate them to make them work?

Could you explain to me what you did to make the seats fit? Do you have to cut the slider portion off of the original seats and weld them to the new seats. I am a newb when it comes to seat modifications.

Ah, if only I were this pimp!
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5
