Which Bike should I get
« on: May 03, 2006, 04:35:11 PM »
I am trying to decide what bike I am going to buy for this summer, i was going to get a street bike but I got to stick to my roots.

I have a 2000 YZ250 that is just not cutting it.  I keep having problems after problems becuase the bike has been ridden hard and is falling apart.  It has some port work done to it for low end power, but still  has a hard time moving my 260# ass around.
I want a new four stroke but do not know what I want, I have been thinking of stick behind Yamaha because mine has been great so far, but I can not get over how sexy the KTM's look.

Don't see as many KTM's out on the trails, and they are awsome bikes. Just my  :twocents:  You could always go with the Adventure and go on and off road.
1986 Toyota 4Runner 22re 5spd transmission and dual transfer cases (4.7’s in the rear). E-lockers front and rear.

2005 GMC Sierra diesel, compound turbo setup to pull.

Yea I new somone would ask.   All my friend ride hondas, 06 450's, 05 250f, 97 cr 250 I have ridden all of them and dont get me wrong they are nice bikes, but I want somthing different than all my friends and I have never been a fan of honda.  I would probley buy the new RM 450 before a Honda 450.

Stand between a kxf and rm, spin in circles 20 times then reach out and touch a bike.  Whichever you touch doesn't matter, they're nearly the same bike since they work together now on their bikes.  I'd buy the honda too, so it's tough to say, but yamaha has done a very good job refining the yzf since it's birth.  Just be prepared for the plastics to already be faded by the time you get it home, cause they're horrible like that.  With how good all the bikes out there are today I think it's really more of a personal preferance thing, and nobody can tell you what you'll like but the man in the mirror.

Yamaha
KTM is good, but it will cost you $ in the long run.

I went down to the bike shop today and picked up some parts for my 250, new clutch, and a shorty silencer

I talked to the sales man who we (my mom and I) have done a lot of business with and he is a good friend, he said out the door he could sell the yamaha for $6900 and the KTM 450 for $6500 and the KTM 525 for $7200.
The bike I honestly want is the KTM 450SX, but I don't want to finance 7k on something I wont like later.  All the new 450s are great from Honda to Suzuki, I just have it narrowed to the top two brands I like.  I have been reading a lot on thumpertalk.com about all the bikes and the KTM seems more and more inviting.  Well, after Memorial day I should be able to talk some serious business and hopfully by then I will have a better Idea of what I want.

Thanks for all your opinions, and if you have experience with any other big 4-stroke dont be afraid to share.

Hey, you know what I just realized?  I have 303 horsepower worth of hondas!  That's pretty cool I guess :dunno:  Seriously, it just kinda came to me when you mentioned big 4 strokes.....

The only real problem I would have with a ktm is the service costs, but you won't be having to service it near as much as the old ones, and I'm sure that along with their popularity growth their quality has advanced ten fold.
