I got into 4x4'in ... until last year when I got an 85 Nissan 4x4 beater truck ...(Rusted POS for $600) Had so much fun and tranny went out ...

Now I need a truck. Since I own nothing but Toyota .. I am looing at an 85 solid axle, extra cab truck, 35's with 4" lift, 5.29 gears, Ivan Dan fiberglass front and rear... looks really good!

The problems is that it has an Auto tranny. Should I wait to buy one with 5 speed? Any advice will help ... How much should I pay for the truck?

Would it be a daily driver?  Trail rig?  50/50?

Can you drive stick? (I don't mean to be rude, but when I bought my rig I had to learn stick 1:00am the night before just so I could test drive it).

It's an 85; EFI?

Did you wanna try a carfax on it, or do you know anything about it's history?  What's broken on it through the years, miles, etc.

Just some things to ponder.

what are you gonna use it for?
Id get a carfax too, if its clean then go for it.If its sound then it should be ok. If you have to change the tranny its really easy. Swaping a tranny is almost like a bolt on part.

Thanks for the reply guys!

I was thinking of using it to off-road and only reason for auto trans was to get my sister into off-roading and get her to own a toy. I got too many.

After researching Auto trans is not ideal. I'll just look for another 85 EFI solid axle manual.

I loved my 86 4Runner with an auto, add a locker and it's an instant crawler.  :twocents:
