95' Chevy 4.3 Vortec, how do you make it run?
« on: Mar 30, 2006, 09:12:55 AM »
I have a 95' Vortec 4.3 that is either CMFI or SMFI, I can't remember :dunno:, but it is the one with 6 injectors rather than 2 in the middle of the manifold. I have 2 ECM's and the wiring harness, ( although I don't know if it is complete.) I got it for part of a trade toward a Kaiser M715 truck that I had. :egyptian: The 4.3 has 55,000 miles and good compression from what the tag reads that the wrecking yard put on the engine. That's where my friend got it.

So my question is, does anybody know if there is a company that makes a harness for this engine so that i can keep the injection? :inthedark: Or, does anybody have any words of wisdom about getting a schematic of the wiring harness and cutting out what the ECM doesn't need to run the engine. :grad: I won't have to smog it because I will be putting it in a 43' Willy's,  :best: hopefully with the SM420 I have and a Toyota tranfercase with 4.7's. Any input would be greatly appreciated. :bananabeer:

Thanks FB, that looks like a good way to go. Have you used any of their products?

Yes, i've got their wiring harness and a ECU. They were very easy to work with and the prices were very good too. I tried calling painless wiring but they didn't even answer the phone.
They are pretty familiar with these engines and what you need if you are in a smog state. (which you said you don't have to worry about) But they can also set you up with the right computer if you are going from an auto to a manual.

Thanks for the info.  :beerchug: I like simple solutions. I really didn't want to decipher the schematics and try and figure out what to cut out. :working: Now I have just 10,000 more thing to figure out.  :wall:

Those Block hugger 4.3 headers from Sanderson Headers sounds like the way to go.

I'm still at the early planing stage of this project.  :eyecrazy: I need to get a tubing bender so I can make the frame. My goal is to install the 4.3l & SM420 that I have, and get a Toyota Tranfer case with 4.7's. I'm building it 20 inches longer than stock. One reason for drivetrain, the other so I can sit behind the wheel more comfortably. Axles will be whatever I come across. In a perfect world, I would run Mog axles, but 60's will do.  :smokin:
