Reverse and put rear leafs in the front?
« on: Mar 29, 2006, 09:11:10 PM »
I have an 83' pickup. and want to reverse and put the rear leaf springs on the front. I've done this before to an 84' and it was great, soft ride and great down travel. however the up travel was limited due to the front shackel maxing out against the frame. I don't know if I should move the shackle mount back (which would be kind of hard because the frame curves inward) or lowering the leaf perch (by adding squair tubing between the pirches and the frame). Should I do bowth modifications or will only one of them work? Also specs and measurements will be greatly appreaciated.

your using the stock shackles arnt you, try a 5.5 in eye to eye long shackle and you should be golden you may have to notch out part of the body mount right behind the shackle

If I notch out part of the body mount right behind the shackle would it alter the structural integrity much? (are you talking about notching the shackle or the frame?)

you know how the hole in the frame for the shackle is inbetween the two lower gussets for the body mount just cut a little slit out of it so the shackle doesnt hit it your only gunna take out 1/2 at the very most probably more like 1/4 -3/8 of an inch its not gunna make a difference in strenght and you probably wont even have to do it, ill take a pic of the area im talking about tomorrow
