Speedo Cable
« on: Mar 21, 2006, 09:50:12 PM »
Working on getting my Autometer gauges hooked up in my Cruiser. Im thinking I need either a custom made Speedo cable or an adapter to hook the Toy Mini tcase (same cable connection as the FJ) to the autometer gauge. What have you guys done to hook yours up?
Thanks, Mike

At one time I talked to Marlin and he told me there was no way to make an Automerter guage work with a standard mini t-case. Might be something now but that wasn't too long ago.  :-\\

Try Speed-o-tach.  They were located on Dorthy between Orange and Cherry, one street south of Jensen.  I think they're in the phone book.

Good news! I took the Autometer speedo and my ol 71 LC cable to a shop downtown called Fred Thorp Speedometer Service. The old guy down there was able to change the end on the cable to match the Autometer. My cable end was getting worn so he lopped the tip off, re-chamfered it and squared it up in a little fixture designed for this purpose.  He then lubed the cable and reinserted it into the cable housing. After he was done with the cable he took my speedo to a speedo calibration machine straight out of the 20's, taking it up to 120 mph! Hes got a dyno out front and says he can correct most speedo errors for about $40 or so.
Anyways this guy did a heck of a good job and only charged me $20!

I haven't heard that name in a long time.

Yeah, Ive driven past the shop for years but never really gave it a second thought. Tried giving Speedo-Tach a call but their number was out of service. The old guy running the shop name is Henry, He said his dad worked for Fred Thorp back in the day, showing Henry the ropes when he got old enough.
