AC questions
« on: Mar 12, 2006, 08:33:55 AM »
Im getting ready to pull the motor out of my 86 4runner and am wondering how to safely remove the AC so that i can pull the engine.  Can i just disconect the lines or is there a special way i have to do it so as to not lose the refrigerant charge?
My Build 1986 4runner SAS 36s etc

"Later, I learned that even though I engage 4WD my hubs are not automatically locking? Something about manual locking hubs I think. What's manual mean? I need to read a manual to lock them? lol  So I found these neat autolocking hubs and installed them. Sometimes they dont stay locked while I am backing up, but that's fine because I dont have a backup camera to see where Im going (like our RV) so I just simply dont ever back up"- BigMike

it needs to be recovered by someone approved by the EPA. its a $25000 for releasing refrigerant into the atmosphere. i would just pull the compressor off the engine, no worries that way. also does your ac still work? if not go ahead and pop the lines. a little refrigerant will come out but according to the EPA thats a dimininous release, no worries there.

ac does still work.... so i can just unbolt the compressor from the engine then pull the engine and just leave the compressor there without problems?

yes. Unbolt it(do not remove the hoses) and set it on the fenderwell.

That's the best way cause you don't want to get any moisture or dirt in the system.

Be carefull not to damage the lines, you may have to flip the compressor around so you don't bend the lines or put undo strain on them.
