Anyone use a harness?
« on: Sep 30, 2003, 10:10:09 AM »
I'll admit I put the shoulder part behind my back because it keeps on diggin in to me but I do keep my lap belt on. Wondering if a harness would be too restrictive or since it actually is always the same it would be ok wheeling?

Just been thinking after this guy got killed on the rubicon last weekend about a mile from me

Not to say he would be alive with a belt, but it just got me thinking you can't be too safe. With my lap belt it is still possible to get some part caught outside of the rig on a roll over..

not that it matters all that much but 5 points are illegal on the roads because of the restriction.  that said use 4 points they have a retracting feature just like 3 points and you will be much safer than w/a 3 point.  about 10 years ago I did a lift install for a guy that was moving to cali. at the same time I put in cobra seats and 4 points for the same reasons.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

well with most good harness you can just use the lap belt for when your not getting it..usally we all know when we should have more the a lap belt while wheeling..
Forgiveness is between them and god..
Its my job to arrange the meeting!

I've ben running a four point for years now. I love it. The restricted movement does take a little getting used to, but overall I like the fact that I'm held in place in the event of a roll (not like that's never happened  ;)).

Mine is an old Diest Racing 3" lap belt with 2" shoulder y-harness and a 2" crotch strap. Well over any NASCAR, NHRA, etc. expiration date (it's more than 15 yrs old) but works just fine for my uses. Held me tight to the seat when I parked the truck wheels up a while back

I have a schroth 4-point harness in my 4Runner, and they're good to use offroad combined with a seat with nice deep bolsters if you want to be kept in place, but at the same time, you can't stay sitting level when the truck is being tossed around which makes for a much seemingly rougher ride...also, it's hard to reach the stereo if you like to jam while you're ridin'.
It just won't get stuck!!
