L50 into a 20R engine?
« on: Feb 10, 2006, 04:21:08 PM »
I plan on getting one (L50) in a week. My question before I buy a new clutch is....Do I buy one for a L43 that was from my stock 20R engine or do I get one for  A L50 which I plan on getting. IS their any difference between the two on spline count? I really want things to go well while I put it in. Someone said that I will need two longer bolts for the bottom part of the bell housing. What length and size would that be and If I would be able to pick it up at napa or Autozone?    I plan on reusing my stock pressure plate just get it resurfaced and I don't know the diameter of it. I thought I read about different size clutches.
Any help?
Thanks,
Mike

cool  another dude from TEXAS  :woohoo:

both trannies have the same spline count,  but with the tires i see in your pic you will be roasting clutches in a 2-3 month basis

i had a L43 and now have a L50,   make sure you get the clutch fork from the L50   ,  you can use the fork from the 43  but the pivot ball will have to be "modified"

i run a 1200 Marlin NON ceramic,  best $185  i ever spent  and i have 30,000 miles on it

oh yea  :welcome:

That is the conventional clutch right?
I have been running my 33's for about two years now. I have open diffs and use to wheel about once a month. Clutch still feels good. I know I smoked it one time. Anyway, I'm not worried about roasting it. Seems my wheeling has become less and less. I might have to order the clutch from Marlin. just wondering if I look up something in relating to having a 20r engine or L50 tranny?  ::)
Thanks 79Coyotefrg for your reply,
Mike

the 20 R  and early 22R  are identical,  i run a 81 22R block with my 79 20R head and a LCEngineering.com stage 2 racing cam

anyway  just order for your 20R  it will work regardless
