i am dumb
« on: Jan 31, 2006, 02:49:41 PM »
I just went to pull my spark plugs from my 93 4 runner and when i got the rubber insulator thing off i noticed the plug wire doesnt just pull off, it goes into the plug. All my plugs before just had boots that just pulled off like in my jeep and my dodge. so how do i get this plug wire out? oh yeah the motor is a 22re

It should just pull off the spark plug.  All i have seen do it.  what rubber piece are you talking about?

well normally the little rubber boot pulls off the terminal. but in mine, the wires run from the distributor but the wires are connected to the terminal and go into the plug. The rubber part that i pulled off of mine is just what clips around the spark plug and the wires from the distributor.

the one on the left is what my plug is like. The one on the right is what every spark plug i have ever seen looks like, such as the ones in my jeep my ram my bikes and my dads f150. maybe this will help. the rubber thing that i pulled off mine was just the cover that clips around the insulator and the terminal.

It just pulls strait off, unlike the bent kind. The tend to suction on there, you just gotta give em a good yank to get em off. Mine look the same way, just grab em and yank.

It may screw of the top of the spark plug.  I now remeber that the one on the right of you pic has a little metal cap that is maybe 1/2 an inch tall that screws on and off.  If the cap is removed than it may have to be screwed off.
I would try that befor you start yanking.  If not just replace all the wires with the other style and forget it.

no no. i got the rubber cover off that just comes off. that picture illustrates the wire that replaced my terminal and actually goes into the spark plug.

just pull it hard, wires and plugs arn't that much money.  If you can't pull the plugs off then there is no way of getting the spark plug out so you must pull the wire off somehow.

You can't replace the strait type with the bent type. They are strait to clear the exhaust heat shied. Just grab them and rip em off.

I have pulled the rubber off the metal that clips to the spark plug, the metal is supposed to be crimped to the plug wire and they come apart easy. I use a set of channel locks and grab down on the boot near the plug and pull. That has helped keep the plug wires together. If that is the problem you are having.
