Driveshaft ?s
« on: Jan 19, 2006, 11:20:25 AM »
I have a 85 4Runner and I'm installing a 94 IFS V6 rearend. I was wondering if it will bolt up to a 85 shaft or will I need to use a multi drilled flange?

Thanks in Advance!

You could redrill it yourself instead of buying a new flange.
My 94' front shaft flange wouldn't line up with my 82 3rd member, but i switched to a later model 3rd member so it's fine now

take it off a see, couldn't hurt anything

Just spin the driveshaft so the holes are in between the flange holes and drill your new holes.  Just make sure they center between the old holes so they're strong.  It's not that hard to do trust me, I'm a puss and I was really surprised how quickly I was able to drill all mine.  Another upside to this is you can use a bigger drill so you can fit the bigger newer bolts.

your 85 runner is 10mm bolts and the bolt pattern for the 94 is the same, i put 97' and 98' runner e-lockers in my 84' and the drivelines bolted right up no prob.  You should not need to change anything on the v6 third its almost a bolt in item..

Oh yeah the factory 10mm bolts are stronger than anything that you can buy at the parts store, keep it toyota and you wont have a prob, and as for yotarich you have a 94' which has the 10mm bolts and you tried to but the weak 82' 4cyl 8mm thrid in you axle which is why you had to change over to the 10mm.  all toyotas before 84' have 8mm and all 84' and newer have 10mm v6 and 4cyl.  good luck on you axle swap you will love how it handles when you done.
