Hello everyone.  New to the board.  Saw this thread and thought I would make my first post.

It has a 1.6-16 valve, 4.89 t-case gears and YJ spring conversion.  This has been the one vehicle that makes me question my sanity.  It started out as a $1000 commuter and has exploded into a never ending project. .  I do love it though!

I am in the process of switching out the axles for Toyota.  I will be running 33's on it.  No need to go any bigger yet.
Just out havin' fun...life's a beach!

looks nice! where you from?

these things are addictive... i am also finding that track/kicks can be as addictive! lol

Thanks Joe!  Yes, these Zuks are addictive.  Great little runners even stock, but really good once a little time gets sunk into them.  A love of wrenching is a prerequisite ;)

I am in North County of San Diego.  Mostly desert runs locally, but I have run on mountain trips in central CA as well.  Nothing out of state yet, but that will be coming once I have the new axles in place.

you dont need to do any out of state runs... you got it all right there! lol

only thing we have here is mud, so travel is required... :D

From Powerstroken's thread:

1987, GRSII, Ez-lockers front and rear in stock axles, 4-linked rear, SPOA front w/missing links, Rancho 9000s, rock lights.  I think that's it, oh and a "custom" bikini top.

Ya, it's a crappy pic, but it will do for now.

Thanks!

I have 26 spline double tough front axles, and stock rear ones. I have never broken a front, i have broken 2 rears though, but the situtations i were in would of broke toyota axles too. But ive gotten really quick at splitting the ARBs to get the chunks out lol. I love my ARBs!!!!! They are so sweet!

Did i metion i drive this to school everyday?

ya i know how that goes lol

How have you liked the Trail Tough YJ setup? does it perform ok in the rock crawling comps? I hear all the Toy guys always going on about doing a shackle reversal, but I don't know if it's worth the money. Do you feel your's could easily tackle Rubicon, or The Hammers? what is your approach angle like?

Joe S.

i know you didnt ask me, but i built a rig a while back with trail toughs yj setup and it is in colorado now and the lady that owns it competes. she loves it! it works great for her. shackle reversal is ok, but a sami with YJ springs and shackles imo loses ground clearance in the back and approach angle is not much better... i have never pulled a tape, but the ones i ihave seen, this looks to have been the case...

Ive beat many toyotas, in my last two comps i got 1st place. in the last one i was the only one running 33s all the toyotas werer running 35s and i beat them. It has a ridiculous amount of flex. The rubicon is nothing for this set up, you will walk through the rubicon. I have never been to the hammers but a buddy of ours has the same set up and he said he did everything with no problems.
Regarding approach angle, If you use the bumbers that TT makes, it has amazing approach angles. My dads has the same set up with TT bumpers, only he used lifted spring perches, and his approach angle is awesome. I had Calmini bumpers on before i put the YJ kit on so it doesnt have to good of approach angles.

Here are alittle better pics of my front bumper and my dads. The sides of mine sticks out really far.

1. I do
2.  He doesnt compete as much as me. He is my spotter, and im his spotter so its tough to run two rigs in the same class and spot for eachother.
