Would it look very tacky or just tacky with it trimmed to fit a short bed / single cab 86' ?

Well on your scale I would rate it a 2-3 if u trimmed it of the back of the liner towards the tail gate. Cause it kind of breaks in towards the the tail gate right at the end and it has 2 holes for tie down hooks to poke through
