transfer case stuck 2wd
« on: Nov 01, 2005, 06:39:00 AM »
Will a transfercase from a 87 efi 4runner fit i 85 carb pickup i think they are the same one is top shift the other is froward shift, is it easier to change it as a whole assembly transmission and transfercase or would it be easier to break it apart in the truck i have never done it before. Whats involved with it anything i should know. The problem with it is the transfer case is stuck in 2WD and will not go into anything else its like its jammed anybody
else have this trouble.

i'm guessing the 4runner has the topshift  and the pickup the forward shift,   tcases are basically the same,  besides the shifter,   if the pickup is the one with the problem i would say take the tranny and t case from the 4 runner and install in the pickup,  im thinking the 4runner will be a w56 tranny,  and the pickup is probably a G54   so the w56 from the runner is a stronger tranny

Yes you are right, so the w56 is stronger than the g56 are there any gearing differences. They are the same length, any difference in the shafts.

yes----  the W56 is quite abit stronger,
no----- theres no gearing differences, both have 3.95 1st gears, 1-1 4th and .85 overdrive 5th,
they should be the same shafts,,   if i was you i would take the W56 tranny and tcase and put in the truck,  or w56and tcase +marlin adapter+ truck forward shift case, converted to topshift,  then you would have dual cases  :hyper:  and one of the strongest trannies

assuming the forward shift is the one thats stuck in 2wd,  because the shift rails are probably bent slightly
