« on: Oct 15, 2005, 12:45:22 PM »

i have an 86 carburated 4x4 toyota truck with a g52 5 speed this truck has well over
200,000 miles on it and for the last year and a half the transmission falls out of
5th gear so i am getting a little tired of it plus 1 st syncro is out of it .

G, W and R Series will bolt up.  I thnk you'd have to modify the crossmember for the W or R, though. :dunno:

i would like to continue driving my truck untill i get a replacement and change it out when i  have the time
i would not mind getting a m/c unit but a little later for now i just want a drop in uesed unit my thinking
is if i can find a better trans than the g-52 i will have a better core when its time for the new m/c unit
again i just need to know what to look for will a v-6 trans work? will a efi work ? i just dont want to waste
the cash drop it out and be unable to have a simple bolt in.

thank you for the information so far

Like he said. G series came on carburated motors, they will bolt up. W series is the 4cyl fuel injected trannys, they are good. R series are the V6 and 4cyl Tubro trannys, they are supposed to be the best. R151F is noted as being the strongest.

Remeber your g52 has the transfer shifter built into the trans., Im on my frist yota but I think the W and R trannys have shifter on the case itself.

the W56 A&B use topshift cases, UNlike your G-series, whereas the W56 C&D and the R151 trans all use forward shifting t-cases, LIKE your G-series.
