Are you sure this wouldn't be easier. No wiring changes. Stock plugs. Just a little dremel time.

i never had the bilnker lights so i didnt have the extra socket i needed. this really only took 15 min start to finish.

hey man ya work with what ya got. no saughter(sp) iron at my place. i just wrapped it up in electrical tape. i suppose i could have just tired the wires together and wrapped them in tape w/o the butt connector

I converted my 91 to Chris's set-up and it works great. I have had no problems with this set-up. And the bulb fits with no major mods.

geez, on my 84 I just unplugged the parking lights and turn signal lights, and then plugged the chassis turn signal plug into the corner marker light's socket. Instant corner turn signals. True, the flasher blinks like it got a hit of speed, but it works.

mine works to, but it still blinks with the quickness. i think i got the wrong flasher.

Aren't the electronic flashers adjustable for speed?

Also, the corner marker on an 89-95 has a much greater depth than the corner marker from 84-88.  That is why it is easier to do the wiring mod on an 84-88, as there is no room to fit the stock turn signal bulb in there.

Also, you can just swap the corner to signal plugs around to get the corner to flash, but then you either won't have running lamps, and that could be illegal, or your corner lamps will be twice as bright as your signals.  I like people being able to see my signals.  On my 90 I made a second hole for the turn signal.  That combined with the 1/2 clear 1/2 amber lens works real well.

Skinny if the EL-12 wont work with it plugged in one way turn in 90* and plug it back in.  Ill guarantee it'll work, Ive done this exact mod on 3 generations of yota's now.  Ive used EL-12's in all of them.

I did the same setup on my 85. Both factory turn signal and running lamp in the side marker light, just like the pics of my 90. Worked no prob.

on my 90 I run a single dual filament bulb for both turn and marker light. since the bulb has two brightnesses.

im telling ya i cant get this one to plug in. i think my autozone falsher is incorrect. i havent had time today to go look at  other options. did you look at the pic of my flasher?

The stock flasher has 3 posts while the el-12 has only 2.  It will still work, just do it.

well im a fawking tard. just a little perswation(sp) and it fit. EL-12 works great. my light now blink at there normal rate and im big pimpin with the blinkers in the corners

See I told ya its the easiest way to do it and the most pimp out there beings you have only one bulb doing the work.  Not like your just cramming another bulb into the same housing and having  the lights drown each other out a bit.

Aww did I hurt your feelers fireball?    My junk is pimp, Ill have to snap some pics of my lights for ya.  All LED with turn signals built into the headlights.   And the whole setup cost me $15 and took about 1/2 an hour.

I did the 1157 socket in a 1st gen.  LED's would be brighter though.  So post some pics!

Ill have to wait till dark to get good pics of the color nut here's what Im using for headlights now.  THey are Hella H4 with a smaller buld in the side of the reflector (built in) that Im using an amber led bulb in for a secondary blinker bulb.  The corner has an led bulb in it and it is both marker and blinker.  If the marker lights are on and you hit the blinker the headlight bulb and corner light alternate back and forth.  If the markers arent on then they flash together. 

Its all in the wiring.

In California front clearance/marker lights are not required by law...
I run clear corner lenses, and simply swapped the wiring from the blinkers to the corner light,
then stuck an amber bulb in the corner light..
Looks clean, works good..

I'm needing to do this on my '85.  I'm going to try it with a 1157 led ,since they are lower profile than a 1157 bulb, I'm hoping they will cram in the stock hole after I dremel it out.  I'm sure I'll have to get some sort of resistor to keep the blinker from being too fast.  I have my junk stock ones to mess with before drilling up my new ones.

All I did was got a wiring harness for a rear brake light and also got a rear brake light blub, and then swapped out the stock single-wire-single-filament wiring harness from the light bulb socket in exchange for the two-wire-double-filament wiring harness I got from a brake light socket.

Then I just had to dremmel one dowel from each brake light double filament bulb so it would fit into the front corner bulb socket. Then just wire in the hot lead from the blinkers and you're done.

1st cut the green wire


Then push the harness through the bulb socket and out the front. Once out it will look like this:


As you can see the front corner light harness is on the left, and I got a 1st gen brake light harness on the right

The brake bulb is obviously much larger, but it still clears my lens just fine. So far it has not melted anything, but only time will tell. I also have some blue (clear white) brake bulbs that I bought but have not installed yet. So for now I am using the ugly yellow-ish bulbs that don't look too good along side my Silverstar headlights. I'll get the other blue bulbs installed some other day

A slight modification is required to get the brake bulb to fit properly into the single filament housing:

take your flasher apart and cut the resistor out of it. That will stop the fast blinking.

I did this to my 86 4runner. I went to napa bought 2 1157 sockets, cut a hole in the original corner light using a 1 1/8" hole saw. I then took some plastic i got for my radio face plate about 1/8" thick cut a 2x2 square and drilled a 1 1/8" hole in that. Using a heat gun i molded the 2x2 plastic over the contour of the corner light. Once i had it i used epoxy to secure it. The socket pushed right in the hole and the extra 1/8" thickness allowed the 1157 to fit it close but it works! made up the wires using the original sockets and plugged them in. This is a great mod to get them up out of the bumper and visible well worth it!
