What size tubing did you use for the front axle? I am in the process of doing the same thing to one of mine but I am going to make mine fj80 width.

Here are some pics of what I did tonight.

This is when I started

and this is when I finished

Ya ya, I know... doesn't look like much, but I have the tank dropped and the hangers are tacked in place... I will update again tomorrow night.  :shocking:

Went out tonight for a few hours, got a little done. I finished the back, I think it may need a 2" lift block though :rivers: and I need to install the rear shocks. I also started the front ripped it all down and started to cut... by then I noticed that it is 12:30am and I have to work tomorrow morning!

Anyways, heres some pictures of what I did... not a lot, but a start.

I think I might get a little time to do some work to it tomorrow, hopefully I can drop the front end  :yesnod:.

I'll keep ya posted!

Did you build a jig for your front axle when you built it to keep everything strait? I want to do the same thing just not sure on how to go about doing it.

Nope, no front jig, just lots of measuring and hope for the best  :crossed:

I got a little more done today, the old IFS is gone and the frame is cleaned up and ready for the front springs!

Die IFS!

Frame after brackets are cut off.

Frame cleaned up!  :circle:

Its coming along fast, I hope I can have it together by Saturday.

what size tires are you going to run?  Lift is coming along great.  Keep up the good work.

I have it sitting on front tires today, but I think there might be a problem. When all the weight of the vehicle is on the tires I can turn the tire by hand (no center link)... is this bad?

OK heres a few answers to your questions.

Tires turn easy or by hand: yes they should turn by hand, but not to easy.  Proper nominclature for " CENTER LINK" now that you do not have ifs is a TIE ROD. The factory spec for you knuckles is 6.6 -13 lbs of pull thats with out the felts set. They will tighten a bit when you tourqe the felt seals in place.

Caster: Will definrtly change and cause your steering arms to point towards the sky, not a big deal just as long as it is not to extreme. ( 45 degrees is proably to much:) Think about it for a minute.  The rear of the spring sits lower then the front so naturally its going to cause the axle to rotate on its axis therefore changeing your caster. Your set up looks fine in the pic you posted. Just trash can those okie shackles and get some real ones:)

As far as moving you steeering box. If your Drag link cross's your tie rod then YES you need to move it forward.  Post a pic so i can see.

Also, I will post a pic in a few hours of what it looks like, since I am only on lunch break from work right now.

... And yes, I do have to do something about my shackles, but these will work fine for now :moon:

Sorry for not getting any pictures up, my girlfriend stole my camera... I will have to get some tomorrow when I see her.

By the way, I had it out for a test run today... it ran well, I definitely have to get them 5.29's in it cuz it drive like garbage. It is a very solid ride on the road though, my rear tires nick the fenders... so I'll have to do a little trimming.

I finally got the camera back. Heres how she sits right now, does anyone think it need to be lifted a little more in the back?

Also, here is my steering... I'm not sure if it is going to be ok or not.

It looks level to me, maybe trim the rear fenders a bit and that will make the fender Wells look even.

I think it looks good :yesnod: .   I really like the look of narrow tires.

Thanks whiteman, I was thinking the same thing about the fenders. I like the narrow tires, but I want to go with the radial toyo open country's and they are 14.5" wide :( I'm kind of nervous to buy them because I need something thats good in the snow and mud.

Yea, I know... but I don't have a Hi-Lift (I need one though) and my floor jack doesn't go high enough. Anything else that might work?

drive it up on another set of tires, or park it on your floorjack and jack it till you get a visual, i personally think that you will benifit from moving it forewards an inch or so.
and as for the toyos in the mud and snow, search my recent posts and you will see how they do-a 6x6 gator got 12 ft or so down this road in the snow, then a 4x4 quad made it 20 ft or so, then i made it about 200 yards with a 13.5 wide toyo mt
