89 4Runner Build - WHATS IT WORTH?
« on: Jul 15, 2005, 07:49:16 AM »
I figured I'd just start my build-up thread because I just started building my front axle. It has 1/2 wall tubes, because it is an 82' axle and I know they bend easy... it also has chromo axles, birf eliminators (I know I could have went with a chromo birf).

I have just started my build because we just finished building our garage, still needs insulation... so my dad always kicks me out of it because its not completely done.

I will keep the updated...

EDIT:

Here is what it looked like when I bought it.

 :haha:

Take your housing down to the "Do it yourself" spray car wash and clean it out, works perfect.

My housing is clean, since it is made from all new metal other than the pumpkin. I also have my own pressure washer, but cleaning that stuff with water makes a mess.

yea, don't break one, you won't find a replacement anywheres... When I blow mine I will be puting in longs or something.

I'm from Canada and everything hits the border and stops because they have to inspect everything I guess. It kinda sucks.

I just finished rebuilding my spring packs, I also have some specs on them.

They have an 11" arch. (I guess thats how you say it :dunno: )

They are 53 1/2" long, 25" on one side and the other is around 28 1/2" long I think.

This is just what they look like.

Now, my question is... should I use these in the front of my 4Runner, and use f-150's in the back, or use these in the back and something else in the front?

Yea, I was thinking of 57" in the back. I didn't know that they were 3" wide, is there any that are 2.5" or is 3" better?

with you rear quarters i would just trim them up and do a little bondo. you'll get more clearance for the tires

Use the F150's in the front and the chevies in the rear.  If you put the chevy's in the front you will have no aproach angle what so ever.  got a friend with chevy's rear and 150's front and his toy flexes like mad but still stable too cuzz of the RS 9000's.

I hate bondo... I want the truck to look half decent, and since I live right next to the water the bondo will crack and fall off over time. I think I may just go with full fiberglass quarters and buy some custom fiberglass fronts. (http://www.toyotafiberglass.com)

Are the F-150's off-center much?

By the way, thanks for the advice.

I'm going to bring this back up because I finally got around the buying some parts for my truck and my front axle is finally almost in one peice.

I just want to know what the distance is center to center on the front spring perches of a 82 solid front axle so I can weld on my new perches and get my front spring hangers made up hopefully this weekend. :crossed:

Alright, I know its been slow going and no progress pics, when does everyone upload their pics so you can post em?

I'm almost ready for my SAS.

I'm gonna make a list and you guys can let me know what I am missing.

I have:

shackles
front springs
rear springs
front hangers
rear hangers
U-bolt flip kit
complete solid axle
5.29 gears front and rear
locker for rear
Rims
36" Super Swampers
High steer
