My new running gear
« on: Jul 06, 2005, 12:36:17 AM »
I have ripped out all my old Toyota running gear, and I'm putting in all Chevy  . This includes a Chevy 4.3 V6 from a 91 blazer (thanks to crawlerdan), a 5 speed (which I'm still looking for), Chevy dual cases, and a Dana 60 and 14 bolt. Here are some pictures of the axles. They have 4.56 gears in them and the 14 bolt has a Detroit locker. All I have to do is put a air locker in the front and narrow the driver side ruffly 2.5 inches and put disk brakes in the rear.

look awesome, how much did you score those for and also whats the width of them,  I'm still possibly interested in your other axles you have for sale, I just scored axles from under a 2500 suburban for free and I think (didn't get a good enough chance to look closer) the front is a 60. the rear is a 14 bolt so we'll see how that goes

You may want to look again I have never heard of the factory placing a 60 under a Sub. I was told I could take a set of axles out from under a 2500 Sub. And I was told they were 60's, when I showed with my tools it was a 10 bolt and a 60 rear. Hopefully I am wrong because thats a score.

Well I took my axles to WFO today, but I forgot to take some pics of them all stripped down :tantrum:  :hammerhead:  :smack:

I've never seen a stock Suburban with a 60 front.

it ends up that its a 14 bolt rear and 44 front.  The casting number on the front said 44-8F.  It was dark when i looked at them the first time.  yeah everyone was right but hey free axles aint bad their always worth money.

tb can't wait to see what you axles look like when your done.  you keeping the leafs or you going to 4 link or something like that when you start putting those under.

oh and your old axles yeah still trying to get mine sold and figure something out.  If you have another buyer just let me know first since you said I'm first in line.

I'm going to keep the leaf springs, I don't need anything more than that. I do need to sell my other axles as soon as I can, but your still first in line so if something comes up all let you know.

Did you just have your axle shaft cut down and resplined.  Which kit did you use for your rear disk brake swap.  I wish I had a machine shop that could do axles around where I live.  No one wants to mess with mine.

man aaron, who was the last to drive that thing?? it looks as though they jumped a canal and hit a few trees? then, hit an exposed sewage pipe, forcing the radiator to implode. then it apears as though some one parked it in your driveway with almost no unbrocken glass left... no who would do that??

Why dont you use CTM's? That is a huge difference between the 44 and the 60 joints.. Axle upgrades? or stock shafts? Im begining to think that when the time comes that my driving requires longfields then I might go 1tons. I know yall say longs are stronger than 60's but you just cant beat that awsome look of fullsized under a toy.

I had alloy axle shafts made for the inner and outer 60 shafts.
