Here are the pictures you wanted of my latches for my half doors. The wire goes from the latching mechanism through the piece of 2x4 and then makes a loop so i can pull it straight forward to open the door. Of course this is the drivers side door, this latch doesn't work anymore after the run through the box. I have to push down on the lever on the bottom of the second picture.

on my door i kept the stock handle and just shortened the "cable" that opens the lock. Heres a pic of the whole system
