1997 GMC 1500
« on: Jun 19, 2005, 10:32:16 PM »
I am looking at this truck to buy for a DD/ tow rig.  It is a 1997 GMC 1500 extra cab short bed.  It has the 5.7L, 109,000miles, a new tranny, ps, ac, cd, pw, tilt, power door locks, bed liner, 4x4, tow package with trailor brakes, Z71.  It was used to pull a 7000 + pound trailor.  I know the guy selling it and it is in really good condition.  Blue book is right about $11,500, he is asking $9,500.  I need a good reliable truck that can tow my toy and i think this is a really good truck.  what is yall's opinion about it?  I am pretty sure i am going to get it.  My dad is going to help me with a loan.

What the hell it'll tow it just fine.  The reason I asked about Z71 is that gives it a semi float 14 bolt rear axle.  The 10 bolt would never live. ;)

I think it has a limited slip, but could be wrong.

yeah arent the Z71 models really a 3/4ton? besides the rear axle, arent the rear leafs supposed to be beefier; correct?

They are considered a heavy half.  The Z71 package includes a couple tin skidplates, stickers and the simifloat 14 as a bonus for more "offroad ability" :hahaha:

 :shakehead:

My work has a 1500 that can't barely tow a single horse trailer with a horse in it.  It hurts just driving with the tailgate up....Hope it does the job you need it to  :beerchug:

brad get an extra  tranny cooler, and putting 4.10s to replace the 3.73s wouldn't hurt.  That trannys going to go fast if you do a lot of towing. Expecially up wentworth springs
