Noobie from south carolina
« on: Jun 16, 2005, 01:26:55 AM »
Hello,  I'm new here as well. i have been into to cars and trucks for a long time now. but about a month ago i purchased my first Toyota truck. its an 84 that i have treated to so far is a 5 inch sus. and 3 in. body with 38.5 tsl/sx and i was about to do everything to get it rolling good but i believe I'm going to get a 93 2wd and put a sas on it with the things i already have. so I'm sure ill be calling marlin soon for the twin shifter,  short throw, and front spring hangers really soon. money isn't the greatest now but every dime i have extra is going to that truck. but I'm glad to be here and plan on doing tons of reading on this forum. thank you everyone for the info i have seen so far.

On a side note how many folks here are from SC, and where do you like to go ride at?

Capitol of SC here....

As far as riding, I do not know anywhere in SC that is legal. I pretty much ride the trails at Uwharrie in NC. I do want to go to Tellico though. One of these days.... ::)

I'm from Columbia as well. sorry about not having a lot of pics right now about the only one that i have is the one there as my avatar, I'm looking for a 2wd now that i can do the swap too. the 84 that i purchased didn't have a motor in it, but i thought that finding a running 22r would be fairly easy to come by but i guess i was wrong. so thats what made me want to get a 89 and up 2wd. if i find one that runs really good then that will be the project that i will use. i have really good mechanical skills and my fabrication skills get better as i do more projects. so really i cant see spending 500 to 1000 on a 22r when i can get a 2wd 22re for about the same price, then all i have to do is put more work into it and the end result would be a better truck anyway.

88toy4x4    we ride some on private land that some of my friends have (mostly mud and stuff like that) but if wanted to go i really wouldn't recommend running a tire smaller than a 35. but if you want you can try. we usually ride at least once a month and we are always working on something. but i will keep everyone updated and keep the pictures coming as soon as i start and the SAS project. and with that in mind if any of you know where a good running 22re 2wd truck or 4 runner is please let me know. i don't care about the body that much at all. my dad owns a paint and body shop so that is no problem, plus ill end up messing the body all up anyways so i don't mind the body condition to much.

Well i had a change of plans yesterday. i went to go look at a 90 4runner that was for sale and wasnt really sure if i was going to buy it because it had a blown motor. well i get there and besides the blown motor this thing is in perfect condition, i mean there are are 2 small dents in the whole truck and the interior is just as nice, anyways i offered the guy $1,000 for it and he said ok, so i took it home. its a v6 (which i didnt really like) sr5 with power windows locks and sunroof, just an all around nice truck.

So i guess im going to have to sas it. but i do have a few questions if one of you can help me. i have a 5 inch sus. on my 84 and i want to put it on the runner, so if i sas it with my 5 inch springs and the marlin hanger kit how much total lift will that be. the reason im asking this is because im going to stick with the coil springs on the back and i need to know how high im going to need to lift the rear. thanks and i will post pics of the 4 runner this weekend.
