Quick Disconnect Steering Wheels?
« on: Jun 01, 2005, 06:44:18 PM »

I have a 91 Toyota that I just had a cage and new seats put in. It is a tight fit to get into the seats with the stock steering column and wheel. Once I am in the seat the location is perfect.

Any Ideas or Vendors I can contact?

Thanks in advance!

Quick disconnects will remove any electronics from the wheel (horn, air bag) The racing style have a hub that is welded to the steering shaft, and another hub is bolted to the wheel. The second hub locks onto the first. I don't know that this would be ideal for the street. I'd aggree on a tilt column. If you are set on a quick disconnect, I got mine from a local sand rail shop, $28 for the disconnect and $50 for the wheel.

Most of the guys I was wheeling with this past weekend all had quick disconnect steerign wheels on their rigs.  Pretty nice setup, like freds40 said you'll lose the horn but otherwise your fine.  When I cage my truck it'll end up with a removable wheel so my fat ass can get in.

In your truck Id say its mandatory to have a removable wheel witht he way that the seats are with their high side bolsters. ;)  A tilt will not move far enough upwards to allow entry or exit especially in an emergency situation.

just do what I did.  I went down to auto zone and there was a steering wheel that looks just like a standard chrome steering wheel, except it is black and it is the same size as a go cart steering wheel.  it helps with space and you dont have to turn the wheel as much to turn.   :king:

Good luck with that steering wheel and bigger tires on the rocks with a front locker.
