I dont know what to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!Samurai or 83 toy
« on: May 16, 2005, 10:24:53 AM »
Okay guys i  am stuck in a bind right now... I have no idea what i should do..   Right now i currently own a 83 shortbed that i got from newkid...  it has no motor but it has enough parts to get it ready for the rubicon... i got spring packs already made, rear springs... lincoln locker, tires yada yada yada... i dont have a dual tcase adapter though...   I also have a samurai that is lifted already but needs steering, toy axle conversion, clutch and power steering... i have no idea what i want to do though.....The samurai needs some work but when im done with it and it has toyota running gear it will be bulletproof... but i have the 83 and its got everything it needs except high steer and a dual tcase... Help me decide... i really want to build the yota but i really want to build the samurai also.... i dont know what the hell to do...... what do i do????

Well if you have the itch to do some wheeling soon than the yota is you quickest fix. You can always tear it down at the end of the season and finish the sammy  :_order:

I don't see the advantage to building the Samari, the Toy will be bullitproof with a lot less work.  The width with be similar since you are planning to use Toy axles; however, the wheelbase on the toy will likely be longer (i.e better).  Climbing is very difficult in short wheelbase rigs, I guess the flip side is potentially more excitement.

Consider this, you make a trip to Mecca...um Moab...and you roll up to Dump Bump with the crowd gathering.  I would rather be in the longer wheelbase Toy so I could go right up.  My truck is an extended cab long bed (wheelbase around 111 in) and it climbs much better than my friends Blazer (about 106 in).  Wheelbase isn't the only difference between the trucks, but within reason longer is better.

Moab Tested & Rubicon Approved

Jared, do you have a trailer you can use to tow the Sami behind your 83? If so then I think it would be cool to have a trail only sami-buggy with all Toyota drivetrain...

But if I had to choose to build a Yota for Rock Crawler or a Samurai for Rock Crawling, and still use it as my daily driver, then I would choose the Yota hands down! The Sami has no room and I bet it would be less stable on the freeway, well atleast for how I drive..

IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

I've gone down the Sami road, I don't like them too small. There were things that I would not do in my Sami that I always did in my Yota's.

I would build the sami, by runnin the toy drive train. cut the cab stretch the chasis and make a pick up bed on the back. you could stil use it as a dd.

but then again i am a little biased
