Hey Paul,
Since the rotors are thicker,  do the wheels end up
sticking out that much more ?

Any Fj40 disc will work too. I am assuming you already know to change the caliper too.

I actually have the rotors on my truck but I need to replace them and I'm not sure what to buy. The axle is originally out of an 85 truck. I have been told there are a few different applications that will work. I thought they were from an fj80 but maybe fj40 rotors are what I need. HELP!!
SO, WHAT MODEL AND YEARS WILL WORK?
Cruzila, I am aware that you have to run IFS callipers with the rotors...thanks for the note though.

I'm running 82 FJ40 rotors on the stock 84 mini truck hubs. 87 IFS calipers, and 1/4" spacers to clear wheels.

If I remember corectly some of the mini axles had a disk that went over the studs. I believe these need a diferent rotor. However I am not positive.

Yes, bolt on mini rotors are not as desirable. Not sure if you can change to studs through both and get them to work. IIRC it will work if the through studs are used with a vented rotor.

Keeps the brakes cooler.
Rotors prolly arent as prone to warping.
Also if you use 90+ V6 IFS calipers, (bigger calipers/pistons) + bigger MC = better stopping power.

Supposedly another application that will work is any year FJ60.

Allows you to wedge a long screwdriver in the vents and up against the caliper for various reasons. :monkey:

But only in one direction eh? eh? The driver would fall out if rolled away from the caliper and down, and then you've got no screwdriver e-brake :ack:

I was under the impression that the fj80 rotors were the ones to use. I have a set of ifs calipers coming my way and would like to get this info straight before i get started.  Which work? And which are superior, if any?

well red it seems that sometimes when mags do articles on brake swaps they think people have too much money and recomend expensive stuff ya dont need anything costly just use about any year of fj40 disc and they will swap right on with either a ifs or fj caliper it simply couldnt get eisier!!  and by the way if they can lock up my 38s they are worth the time!
