I have a 72 cruiser w/327 chevy w/a stock toy 3 speed tranny and t case. I have problems w/stalling on inclines. any suggestions? I was told an SM420 trans would solve the problem.

Your stalling is most likely carb related.  A tranny swap would give lower crawl ratio, but a V8 should be able to overcome gearing on power alone.

Check carb float bowl vent tube.  If it's short,  use a piece of hose or tubing that will extend it to the uppermost limit of your air cleaner, then squeeze or restrict the opening.  It's just supposed to vent not flow fuel.
