Topic: running 5.0 and a gears question

i just purchased a 5.0 302 from my neighbor and wondering about gears for this project. i know theres enough power to turn them but do i need to go to a  higher gear? let me know what yall think.. thanks,

   Depends on what you plan to do with the rig I suppose.  Are you trying to set some land speed records, creep through the rocks at a fraction of a mph, or something in between?  It's also going to depend on whether you're planning on running a manual or auto tranny as to what the appropriate gearing might be.  By the way, what is the engine going into and do you have any plans to go dual cases?  Give us some more details...and pics if you got 'em because this sounds like it could evolve into a cool build thread.

its going in a 86 pickup 5 spd. no land speed records just some more power. i think i got a good deal encluding the radiator engine and exuast and wiring for 800. the engine has i think 15k or less on it. i haven't thought much about dual cases but it'll be mostly mud and a couple times a year trailling in co.  i'll get with brandon and see what he has to say. i'll get some picks out as soon as we start to install hopefully within the next 2 weeks. sas is also on the way.
