Tie Rod End - Parts Question
« on: Jun 05, 2022, 11:56:59 AM »
On my more recent order for Tie Rod Ends from Marlin Crawler the invoice says MCST-34111 (Tie Rod Ends, Right) which matches the website.  The box that I received says SE-2951L which seems like it should be a left since there's also an SE-2951R available on Amazon.  What I need is the opposite side for the one that I have, but want to order it from Marlin because their price is better than Amazon.

This seems harder than it should be.  I'm thinking that I got shipped the wrong part...
1989 4Runner: Dual Ultimate (Inchworm front & Marlin 4.70 rear), Marlin Twin Stick, 1200-lb clutch, 4.88 R&P, Aussie Front, Detroit rear, 30-spline Longs, Long hub gears, ARP hub and knuckle studs & 35x12.50 Cooper STT PRO tires.  Marlin rear bumper & sliders.  FROR front bumper.  SAS with Alcan springs & Rancho 9000XL shocks.  Budbuilt Bolt-on traction bar.  Custom Interior Cage by Those Guys Rod and Customs.

Have you checked the threads to verify L or R. I think I got one that was wrong boxed.

I have not.  What's the easiest way to check?  The mechanic that fixed my rear end indicated that it was the wrong side.  I didn't specifically ask if he just looked at the box, but I'd be surprised if he didn't verify since he's a bit of a mad scientist.

Did it come with the jam nut. If so a few turns should tell you. If not, fingernail, knife edge. Anything to observe which way the threads go

No jamb nut. I have not taken the time yet to look closely at the threads.

Hello,

I apologize for replying to such an old post. However, the TRE with an 'L' in the part number refers to the right hand side while the part number with an 'R' refers to the left hand side.

Thank you,

Kyle

Is this applicable to both the tie rod and the steering link?  I ended up ordering a pair of TREs and then realized that the bags are clearly marked L or R and even have different color plastic bags.

Yes, this applies to the tie rod ends on both the drag link and tie rod.
