Good Vibes ! Not really ..
« on: Mar 04, 2021, 10:29:53 AM »
Trying to track down where the vibration might be coming from. So just finished putting my Marlin 4.70 comp kit on, so naturally I had to test. Drove 100 miles to an off-road park wheeled for 5 hours no issues.. It was awesome except the first obstacle I was too excited and forgot to air down DOOOH !  :hammer:  Got the rear diff stuck on a rock didn't hit the shaft have to double check. But on my way home I noticed a vibration on 5th gear from 2800 rpm to about 3000 and totally goes away beyond that. At first I was thinking weights on my wheels popped off but I noticed it would do it on 3rd gear but not on 1rst and 2nd. Any hints to point me to would be greatly appreciated.

Vid below: Enjoy.

If the vibes are being felt in the seat, it is usually a driveline/drivetrain issue, i.e. out of balance drive shaft, incorrect driveline angles, worn u-joints, worn engine/trans mounts.

Thanks for the input Snowtoy: Whatever it maybe it showed it's self after the 4.70 test run. Another thing to t-shoot and chase for a fix.

Might try marking the flanges on the driveshaft and their corresponding flanges, and rotate 180* and see if that doesn't fix the vibration,

Do you notice any vibes in the seat when letting off the throttle?  That is another sign that the driveline u-joints are worn.

Will drive it around town this weekend and troubleshoot. I'll report back on what I find.

Before going on a quick freeway blast I greased up my driveshaft with some Red N Tacky and aired up my tires from 22 to 28 psi ( 28 my normal street pressure ) and there was no vibration at all, super smooth. What the hel! ? I tried deceleration from 3000prm and cruising between 2800-3000 no vibration at all. Just have to keep an eye out on it I guess. On to the next Modification !  :driving: :hammerhead:

I would double check that your driveshaft U joints are in phase. maybe when you’re disassembling one of the yolks slipped off and you just haphazardly put it back on thinking you would straighten it out when you did the reassembly?
