Tie rod puller ?
« on: Feb 06, 2021, 07:40:24 PM »
Can anyone recommend a good puller for removing fj80 tie rod ends from high steer arms? I'm tired of tearing boots with a pickle fork.

I was hoping a pitman arm puller would work but the opening is about 1 1/8". I tried finding one with a 3/4" opening to fit the high steer arm but no luck.

What are you guys using?

Removing a tie rod has been one of THE most maddening jobs for me. :smack:

I've tried a couple tools from Autozone and they never work.

My pickle fork does destroy the rubber!

There are a bunch of tools out there.

The one that I would probably try if I had to drop tie rods or ball joints again, is the one:

Perhaps your local auto parts store has one you can rent.

I usually soak it with liquid wrench end up with heat from a propane torch.

Please let us know what you find out.

Good luck.
