81 vs 85 crossmember length
« on: Dec 15, 2020, 10:06:11 PM »
Does anyone know if the crossmember from an 85 is longer than an 81 with a L50 transmission? I bought a w56 a while ago and I want to get it setup without spending a bunch on a aftermarket crossmember but since the W 56 is longer I have to move the crossmember back and because it’s on the part of the frame that gets wider the stock crossmember won’t be long enough to bridge the gap and be able to bolt it in but I figure the later models truck crossmembers must be longer? And if it is then maybe I could even temporarily mount it in there with Ubolts

my 83 crossmember length is roughly 43" but that aint strait, its going over the counter of it. the flanges are wider.

It won’t bolt right up that’s why I’m trying to figure out if the later model trucks have a longer crossmember. If anyone has measured their crossmember that has an 84 or newer pick up please let me know what it measures to?

I checked my 84, the outer bolts on the front of the crossmember  are 37 1/2" center to center.
