L52 Rebuild questions
« on: Nov 04, 2020, 06:07:10 AM »
I am rebuilding an L52. I have the FSM as well as done lots of searching and I cant find an answer to my questions.

When I torque the 5th gear nut down it's locking the floating and drive 5th gear together. Is this nut just supposed to be finger tight then staked? When I leave it finger tight it operates as it should. I didnt pay attention when I took it apart.  :smack:

Also the counter shaft has about 1/4" of lateral movement. Basically the inner race on the front two piece bearing that is pressed on is sliding in and out of the bearing. The only thing stopping it is the gear hitting the case. IM assuming this will self center when running and hitting the case wont be an issue? I'm hoping this is normal just want to confirm. I don't see any way that this could be fixed accept a front bearing that is one piece not two.

TIA.

Forgot to install the bearing spacer on the front counter shaft bearing.  :smack:
