Best way to determine if front brakes are IFS or non-IFS
« on: Jun 28, 2020, 11:56:11 AM »
Any visual markings or hints I can look for to determine between an IFS of non-IFS brake setup? Installing a Longfield 30-Spline Gun Drilled Super Set as my first major upgrade and might as well do the wheel bearing while I'm at it. And tips, hints or clues are much appreciated !
Someday I'll have an 85 Yota pickup like Marty Mcfly but in Crawler mode !!!

Non ifs front brake rotors are solid..ifs rotors are vented

Dang-it ! I ordered the wrong parts but thanks for the very useful info. Learning as I go through the rig part by part.

@OVRAROK  from how I understand it and what I have been told the IFS setup have 3 inch axle over all length longer than the non-IFS brakes set-up. Is this accurate?

Only if they use the appropriate parts..when i did my ifs upgrade...i used sky's kit...which is no longer available...the ifs hubs push your width out by 3"s...now they make a kit thats much more advanced....its called the tacoma brake upgrade..

Before the IFS hub/Tacoma caliper mod, I think we were using 4 or 6cyl? 4x4 pickup/92+ 4runner IFS calipers with 60 series landcruiser vented rotors(bolt on upgrade). this would not change the axle width so most would use 1.5" spacers to match their upgraded and wider IFS truck rear axle.
