Topic: 3.4 R150 transfer case compatibility

I have a solid drivetrain from a '99 4runner that was rolled that I'd like to put into a '95 that I have as well. The '99 was the wifes daily and the '95 was supposed to be a body donor for her crawler but it seems like we're going to turn that into her new daily with the '99 drivetrain.

I need to make the 3.4 R150 have a passenger side drop transfer case to accommodate the front diff of the '95. Will a VF1a transfer case from a 3vze r150 bolt right up to the back of the 5vze R150, or am i going to need to get an adapter plate and run a gear drive case? I know i could just get a 3vze R150 trans and tcase, but this transmission was recently rebuilt and has less than 3000km on it, and would much rather use that.

There are two main versions of the R150F, and the tail housings are different between the two.

- The 1988-1995 version that was found on V6 Pickups / 4Runners:


- The 1996-2004 version that was found on V6 Tacomas / 4Runners:


In order to attach a gear-driven transfer case on either version you need an adapter. The 1988-1995 R150F needs this: 3.0L-V6 Adapter and the 1996-2004 R150F needs this: 3.4L-V6 Adapter.
