1982 Rear View Mirror
« on: Mar 26, 2020, 02:35:30 PM »
So, the rearview mirror won't stay in the slot.  Is there some type of clip or something I'm missing?  It looks like it was glued once upon a time.  If this is serviceable what are y'all doing for replacements/upgrades?  Thanks!

Drive to a local auto glass shop, they will know how to fix it.

I don't think an auto glass shop is considered an essential business...……..

That may be true in some states?

However, here in Arizona, I believe auto glass repair/replace is considered an essential business.  :dunno:

Thanks.  I'll pull the light mount and see what I find.  Trying to bring this truck back from the dead and discovering all the issues.  My kids and wife have been helping. Discovered the accelerator pedal was seized and some broken springs in the drivers seat.  Turns out a pair of the seat tracks are bad.

Turns out there are 2 set screws inside the housing that are plastic and one is broken.  Toyota doesn't list that part separate so if anyone has one or I"ll have to think about a solution.

So it turns out these screws are nylon and appear to me 8mm with a non standard thread.  They're nylon I assume to be breakaway. I'm going to try to go by Fastenal to see if they can come up with anything that might work.  Otherwise, I'm wondering if anyone has adapted a glue on mirror?

8mm is awfully close to 5/16.

So maybe they're 5/16 with SAE  thread...……...

Thanks.  The only replacement mirror I've found had really bad reviews.  One said it fell apart and couldn't be used.  I may try it.  Thanks for the thread tip.

I ended up buying 8mm nylon rod and a die as it's 1.00 thread and made my own set screw like factory.  It turned out really well and saved the mirror.
