Just heard back from Marlin and they suggest to break in with conventional 75w90 for the first 1000 miles then they recommend using Redline 75w90 fluid. So I thought someone out there might want to know.
Thanks

i know this is an old thread but how is the redline oil working out, about to install duals and am debating that vs  Neo Synthetics 80-90

You’ll never notice a difference with expensive gear oil in your transfer case. You will feel a difference with MT-90 in your manual transmission.

I have run everything from 20w-50 Castrol motor oil, Redline MTL, to Mobil 1 Synthetic.  The difference in shifting is very noticeable between conventional 75-90 and Redline or Mobil 1. If I lived in a very cold climate, I’d be running ALL synthetics, they flow easier at cold temps. I’m running Mobil 1 now and shifts up and down are smoother than with the conventional 75-90 gear oil.  I live in the Phoenix area and Redline and Mobil 1 did lower the temperatures on the tranny shifter and the t-case shifter when grabbed with my hand at the base of the shifters, especially during our 100+ summer months.

https://www.redlineoil.com/mtl-75w80-gl-4-gear-oil

By the way, in my rebuilt 5-speed, the tranny shop installed Toyota Factory synchros, and the shifts were a little notchy for about 1,000 miles. I switched from conventional 75-90 to Redline MTL (recommended by Redline Tech) and it really made the shifts much smoother.

Personally, I would NOT drain and refresh my tranny or t-case oil after a "break-in" period.

I always ran Redline MT 90 because I was told there was no sulfur inside.  Meaning if water got inside it would not turn to sulfuric acid and harm the brass syncros.  Not sure if this is true.  it worked well for me though.

According to Redline's site, only difference between MTL and MT-90 is viscosity.

I thought the "to slippery" came from the sulfur and that is what posed a possible problem to the the syncros as in GL-5 lubes.  Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly.

Any new gears are going to have a lot of wear right off the bat. Do a oils change after new gears within the first 50-100 miles then usually maintenance after that

MT-90 back of bottle says something about GL-5 being to slippery for brass syncros.

I believe orginally that to achieve a GL-5 rating,  a sulfur compound was added to the oil.

This sulfur compound would attack the brass/bronze synchro rings.

They may be able to achieve the GL-5 rating without the sulfur compound now.     So you won't have any problems with the synchro rings anymore.       Check the label,   find the MSDS sheet and see if there's sulfur in the oil.

Of concern to tranny's only.

I was intending to pile on to your observation that t-cases don’t have syncros. The discussion seemed to follow the tranny outline when the key factors don’t apply to t-cases.
