Dual Case Leaking from rear output shaft
« on: Jan 04, 2020, 12:27:22 PM »
I have a 99 4runner SAS'd.  I have a Marlin Dual case and love it but i am getting an oil leak from the rear output shaft.  I have replaced the seal numerous times and after about 150 miles it starts leaking again.  I have called in with this issue and Marlin has sent out a "updated" output flange which was polished better.  I am having the same issue despite replacing the output.  When I reinstall the new seal I do it correctly and use sealant on the threads.  What am I missing?

Either your output shaft, shaft bearing or something with rear driveline.

Put a dial indicator on the flange without the driveshaft connected. See if the shaft is warped.

Thanks for the idea Redneck  I twisted a driveshaft off a while back maybe it bent the output.  Gnob new rear end and same problem on old one.  Thanks for the replies gentlemen.

Getting all info in your original post helps....
Id be looking at the output shaft.  I broke a rear pinion shaft once. The force of the DL sagging broke the DL CV and bent my output significantly.
Try the dial indicator on the flange trick.

I know this is an old thread but was wondering if you found/fixed

the problem? I’m having the very same issue and so far I have added a breath to the back case, replaced the seal, tested for out of round and even shimmed the flange so the seal would land in a new spot and still weeping gear oil from the seal..
