R154 with R150/R151 5th Gear
« on: Dec 16, 2019, 10:02:09 AM »
Hello All,

I've found quite a few posts claiming that 5th gears can be swapped between all R series boxes and result in different overall drive gears depending on the main shaft. However, I haven't found anyone who as actually DONE one of these swaps.

I'm about to split open my mk3 Supra R154 for a rebuild and would like to change the 5th to something longer. It's in front of a V8 in my mk2 Supra and the .75 5th is a little short for me. Threads like this make me believe that I can swap to a R150 5th and counter to end up with a .63 OD.

Has anyone actually done one of these swaps? Looking for a warm and fuzzy before I drop $350+ on parts that I won't be able to return.

I'm thinking I would need PNs:
counter gear 33046-35050
main gear 33336-35010

Any help/tips would be appreciated.

Thanks,
David

Update. Bought the parts. This mod definitely works.

I'll update once the trans is back in the car but everything fits. See pics below. R151 gear is on the left. R154 gear is on the right.
