What's that thing called...
« on: Dec 09, 2019, 09:53:07 AM »
Hello everybody.  I have a coolant leak coming from the side of the block.  It seemed to occur after I was trying to find a location for a water temp sender for a new guage. I think it is coming from the small pipe in the block that carries coolant to the throttle body.  #1  does that pipe just pull out of the block?  #2  what should it be sealed with?  #3  what's it called( if it has to be replaced)

what motor? I had one leak on my 1KZ. It was turbo coolant pipe. I used JB weld to fasten and seal it and I havent had any leaks since. Just make sure not to use so much that you block the flow of coolant.

This is on the 1kz-te.  I was looking for a place to mount a water temp sender in the block under the intake and ended up with a leak.  I think the leak is from a small metal pipe coming out of the block that runs coolant (via rubber hose) to the throttle body.  The second coolant hose coming from the throttle body runs to the head, slightly higher and farther back  on the motor.  That connection is not leaking.

I think you are talking about the oil cooler cover. I have an oil leak on mine right now that I have stopped to my temporary (winter) satisfaction. There is a hose barb on the oil cooler cover that the throttle body coolant line you are referencing connects to.

Thanks Nate.  That's it.  I messed around in there trying to find a location to put a water temp sender in.  Now it looks like it could be leaking from around that hose barb.  (or maybe the cover casket)  Is the hose barb removable from the cover so that I could try to seal it with some permatex?

I'm pretty sure the hose barb is either pressed in or epoxied in. it doesn't look threaded. the cover gasket leaking would cause water to leak though. there is a block water jacket drain thingy on the cover that would be a perfect place to pick up a sensor.
