Short bed or long bed?
« on: Dec 02, 2019, 05:07:31 PM »
85 Standard Cab Toyota pickup, measurement is from the inside. Length is 73.5, is that a shortbed or long? Making sure to choose the correct Marlin rear bumper.
With the tailgate down it measures roughly 93 inches.

I'm pretty sure the single cab 22R 4x4's were available in both regular and long bed in 1985. I know for a fact that they were available in 84' because my friend used to have one. The long beds were 88 inches long while the short bed (what you have) was 76 inches long.

Yes, the long bed was available for the 2nd gen, but unlike the 1st gen, I think you had to order them that way.

I've had a few 2nd gen long beds. Also an 87 extended cab long bed. They did exist but yours is certainly a short bed.

That '87 was a 2wd right, never heard/seen a 4x4 X-cab w/a 7' bed.  If it was a 4x4 X-cab, that could be a unicorn Yota.

That's a standard bed.

With a long bed, the length of the bed in front of the rear wheel is about the same as the length behind the rear wheel.

A standard cab/long bed  and a xtracab/standard bed are the same length in 87.

Only the 2wd came xtracab / long bed

Yes my 87 xtra cab long bed was a 2wd. I also have never seen one in 4x4. I do have an 86 turbo space cab 4x4 with a reg bed though.

Yes my 87 xtra cab long bed was a 2wd. I also have never seen one in 4x4. I do have an 86 turbo space cab 4x4 with a reg bed though.

I was at a friends house in the late 90s and a friend of his rolled up in a 94 extra cab long bed 4x4.  After drooling over it they said he'd bought it from another friend who builds limosines.  It was super clean and pretty cool.

In case anyone is still interested or cares - the '85 hilux 4x4 standard cab was indeed offered with a long bed.   I have one, and am the original owner (purchased Dec '84).    It was ordered from the factory, but it appears that very few were shipped to the US.

My buddy had a single cab '85 4x4 22re SR5 longbed in high school.  It is more rare than the short bed but was definitely a factory option.
