RA6x Trans Tool Help
« on: Nov 23, 2019, 05:26:01 AM »
Hi all! I have a RA62 trans in our IS350 Rally car... needs synchros in a major way and after trying to get a replacement twice (yards keep breaking the throw out guide off the bell housing) I’m looking For tools to disassemble trannies to... 1.)fix bell house on replacement trans.... b.) replace synchros in existing trans to be a spare.

I’m striking out in lexus community finding out exactly what type of tools I need to feet the trans apart.  Anybody have a write up or info on the tools they used to replace a RA trans?  Help would be much appreciated.  We’ve limped by thelast 6 races on toasted 5th/4th synchros... only a matter of time until I yard sale this trans!

Thank you in advance!

If you can find a real Lexus FSM (factory service manual) it shows all the SST's (special service tools) that is used for your specific vehicle!!

Thanks for response.  I reached out to the two folks I know with most knowledge that have been inside lots of Toyota transes including one who has been in an RA62 at a Lexus dealership requesting just this (service manual for SS tools... consensus is that it won’t give the specific tool you need but reference a SS set and that to go the SS route would be well into the thousands.  There is supposed to be a SA tool to hold trans when you put something crazy like 55lbs tq on a nut when re assembling.  My thought there is that I can fab something.

For gear splitters/pullers/etc hoping to find someone that’s been in with universal tools and can give me an idea of what types of pullers to amass (thinking of scouring fb marketplace for a month or so).

All this said your advice is good and was my initial thought.  I should put my OWN eyes on the manual before I discount it as helpful.
