22r to 3rz swap with ifs conversion
« on: Oct 27, 2019, 04:38:04 PM »
Hi again, I've been thinking of upgrading my 22r for a more powerful and efficient toyota engine I've read as much as I could along the lines of the swap. I would like to keep my stock 1986 22r G52 series t/case, but incorporate an r151d manual transmission from a T100, does anyone have any experience with these transmissions? I know they originally came with v6 t100 but if it can work with a 3rz I'd be stoked. Would it work for california obd2 also? Since the transmission never came with the 3rz, I want go with an R series transmission figured this would be best since it's really hard to find the r151f or even a r150, thank you.

The r150 trans came in more than the T100, it came in all trucks and 4Runners from '89-'95, that came with the 3.0 and a manual transmission.

I see well then I'll probably go with a beefed up w56 since it wouldn't take as many donor trucks to perform the build from what I've read. Also, have been looking into building a full floating conversion for the rear end of my truck(front range offroad kit), I like the idea of it being less stress on the axle itself from what I've researched and safer if one snaps.  I've seen trucks with this conversion with aisin manual locking hubs on the rear. My NEW questions being, do they actually function the same as the ones on the front how so? Also, could I put a 4.88 spartan locker in with that set up? How reliable would it be?
